Kaiser Permanente Provides $25,000 Scholarship and Loan Forgiveness Awards to Mount St. Mary's Nursing Students
Eleven Graduates Guaranteed Two-Year Employment with Kaiser Permanente
LOS ANGELES — An estimated 43,000 registered nurses will be needed by 2010 to keep up the pace of California’s growing population and healthcare demands. The specific demand from employers is to hire baccalaureate prepared nurses. Kaiser Permanente today will present $25,000 scholarship and loan forgiveness awards to 11 nursing students graduating from Mount St. Mary’s College.
The students are the recipient of Kaiser Permanente’s 2009 Loan Forgiveness Scholarship Award and the ceremony takes place on Thursday, April 30 located at Doheny Campus, 10 Chester Place from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
“Kaiser Permanente believes in the excellent work and education being provided at Mount St. Mary's College, and our forgiveness loan program underscores the importance of providing financial assistance to these future nurses,” said Judy Husted, executive director of the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals Patient Care Services. “We look forward to these nursing students becoming a part of an outstanding patient care team that will provide excellent care and quality to our members.”
Since 2005, Kaiser Permanente partnered with the College to ease the student’s financial burden from tuition and help them begin their career path. The loan forgiveness program guarantees that students who graduate and commit to two years of employment in an acute care Kaiser Permanente hospital facility will not have to pay back their loans.

As one of the largest employers of nurses in California, Kaiser Permanente’s support to build California’s nursing workforce exceeds $4 million annually for Nursing Pathways, career ladder programs, nursing scholarships, loan forgiveness programs, and grants to colleges.
