'Super Surgery Day' at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Featured on ABC Channel 7

More than 30 patients received donated outpatient surgeries Feb. 23 through the 15th annual "Super Surgery Day" held at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center.

The event is said to be the largest charity ambulatory surgery event in the country. It's the product of a partnership between Kaiser Permanente and Operation Access, which was founded to help people without health insurance gain access to necessary surgical care. Operation Access was cofounded by Dr. Douglas Grey, chief of thoracic and vascular surgery at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center.

More than 100 Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center physicians and employees volunteered for the event. Donated surgeries for the uninsured also are performed at other times throughout the year at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco and eight other Kaiser Permanente hospitals.

Super Surgery Day was covered in depth by ABC Channel 7's program "The View From the Bay." View the segment now on Channel 7's website.
