Volunteer Services Department
POSITION PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Maternity Department staff,
Maternity Service volunteers take baby photos, prepare mothers for discharge,
escort mother and baby to the car, assemble charts as needed and assist the
nursing staff as requested.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: All volunteers must attend Volunteer Orientation, sign a Confidentiality statement, complete health testing and security photo identification, and wear appropriate uniform when on duty. Volunteers must be in good health and must follow Kaiser Permanente rules. Orientation to the Maternity Department is provided by the Maternity staff.
Ability to speak clearly and be understood in the English language .
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills: A friendly demeanor with a positive attitude; demonstrated capability and comfort level with newborns.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FACTORS:
* Hearing and sight must be adequate with or without accommodation to carry
out duties.
* Ability to walk 1/4 mile up to 2 times per day.
* Ability to lift and carry up to 12 pounds.
* Ability to hear and speak clearly for staff, patient and visitor contact.
* Ability to manipulate camera equipment.
* Ability to push a patient in a wheelchair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Pass out baby photo booklets and answer questions. Take baby pictures as requested
by parents.
* Transport discharged mother and baby by wheelchair to waiting car.
* Assemble charts for labor and delivery, nursery and C-section.
* Deliver charts throughout the Maternity Unit as needed.
* Understand and follow strict confidentiality guidelines.
* Read the posted notices and memos at the beginning of each shift.
* Assist in the training of new volunteers.
