Volunteer Services Department

POSITION PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Volunteer Services Department the Personal Service Volunteer provides reading material to patients and waiting room areas throughout the facility.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: All volunteers must attend Volunteer Orientation, sign a Confidentiality statement, complete health testing and security photo identification, and wear appropriate uniform when on duty. Volunteers must be in good health and must follow Kaiser Permanente rules. A trained volunteer provides training in Personal Service.

Ability to speak clearly and be understood in the English language.

Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills: A friendly demeanor with a positive attitude.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FACTORS:

* Hearing and sight must be adequate with or without accommodation to carry out duties.
* Ability to walk 1/4 mile up to 4 times per day.
* Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
* Ability to push magazine cart throughout facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Sort through incoming magazines, discarding inappropriate materials and straightening magazine shelf.
* Distribute reading material to patients in hospital.
* Check every member waiting area, removing old magazines and replacing with current magazines.
* Run in-house errands for patients.
* Read the posted notices and memos at the beginning of each shift.
* Assist in training new volunteers.
* Understand and follow strict confidentiality guidelines.
