
VALLEJO SPIRITUAL CARE JOB DESCRIPTION
Seven days a week***hours vary
POSITION PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Spiritual Care Department Coordinator, the Associate Chaplain will provide spiritual care support to patients, families/loved ones and staff within the guideline of the Spiritual Care Department and Kaiser Permanente, Vallejo.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: All Associate Chaplains must attend the Volunteer Services and Spiritual Care Orientation and Training programs, sign a Confidentiality statement, complete health testing and obtain a security photo identification. The Associate Chaplains must be in good health and must follow Kaiser Permanente rules. Orientation to the various Departments is provided by Spiritual Care Services staff.
Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to speak and write clearly and be understood in the English language. Ability to respect and support patient/family’s personal religious/spiritual belief without imposing own belief.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FACTORS:
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, operating instructions
and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability
to effectively present information and respond to questions
* Ability to walk ¼ mile
* Ability to stand while interacting with patients/families/staff
COMPETENCIES:
Works under supervision of Spiritual Care Coordinator
* Complies with policies and procedures of Kaiser Permanente and Spiritual Care
Services Department
* Follows instructions of Spiritual Care Coordinator
* Visits patients as assigned
Provides Spiritual Care to Patients/Families/Loved Ones/Staff
* Demonstrates respect for diversity and beliefs that differ from one’s
own
* Makes Spiritual Care Assessment
* Provides appropriate spiritual care intervention
* Demonstrates age-specific knowledge and competence
* Completes documentation as directed
Demonstrates effective teamwork
* Communicates effectively
* Works cooperatively with Spiritual Care Services and hospital staff/volunteers
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Demonstrate respect for diversity and beliefs that differ from own beliefs.
* Provide spiritual care visitation to patients/families/staff.
* Assist in the training of new Associate Chaplains as assigned.
* Contact patient’s clergy at patient’s request or when appropriate.
* Maintain confidentiality.
* Provide and maintain appropriate documentation as directed.
Hours: Work one shift (2-4 hours) per week
