Volunteer Services Department
POSITION PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Clinic Staff, Clinic volunteers provide information, assistance, and direction to members and visitors. Volunteers escort members as requested and provide blood pressure screening.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: All volunteers must attend Volunteer Orientation, sign a Confidentiality statement, complete health testing and security photo identification, and wear appropriate uniform when on duty. Volunteers must be in good health and must follow Kaiser Permanente rules. A trained volunteer provides orientation to the Clinic.
Ability to speak clearly and be understood in the English language.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills: A friendly demeanor with a positive attitude; ability to give instructions in a clear and concise manner, both in person and on the telephone. Volunteers are expected to keep current on medical center changes.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FACTORS:
* Hearing and sight must be adequate with or without accommodation to carry
out duties.
* Ability to walk 1/4 mile up to 4 times per day.
* Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
* Ability to hear and speak clearly for staff, member and visitor contact.
* Ability to push a wheelchair

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide directions to medical offices and hospital locations in a pleasant,
clear, concise manner.
* Respond to phone calls in a pleasant, competent manner.
* Be familiar with “zero-refill” prescription run.
* Escort members throughout the facility, using a wheelchair when necessary.
* Record and monitor requests for patient escort.
* Take blood pressures as requested and maintain proper records.
* Look for wheelchairs and sort magazines when necessary.
* Be familiar with desk information, including facility directory, conference
room schedule, meeting schedule, doctors’ manual and Reference Manual.
* Be familiar with phone and computer use as described in the Reference Manual.
* Read the posted notices and memos at the beginning of each shift including
current memos and “Letters From Liz” in the Reference Manual.
* Assist in training new volunteers.
* Understand and follow strict confidentiality guidelines.
