Volunteer Services Department
POSITION PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Volunteer Services Department, the Information Desk Volunteer provides directions, assistance and information to patients, visitors and others requesting information.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: All volunteers must attend Volunteer Orientation, sign a Confidentiality statement, complete health testing and security photo identification, and wear appropriate uniform when on duty. Volunteers must be in good health and must follow Kaiser Permanente rules. A trained volunteer provides orientation to the Information Desk.
Ability to speak clearly and be understood in the English language.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills: A friendly demeanor with a positive attitude; ability to give instructions in a clear and concise manner, both in person and on the telephone. Volunteers are expected to keep current on medical center changes.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FACTORS:
* Hearing and sight must be adequate with or without accommodation to carry
out duties.
* Ability to walk 1/4 mile up to 4 times per day.
* Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
* Ability to hear and speak clearly for staff, patient and visitor contact.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide information for members, visitors, clergy, in person and on the phone.
* Provide proper directions to medical office and hospital locations in a pleasant,
clear, concise manner.
* Respond to telephone calls in a pleasant, competent manner.
* If shift requires, open/close the information desk
* Correctly record everything volunteers deliver to patients’ rooms. (HI
1 only)
* Sell flowers, balloons, accepting money when the Gift Shop is closed. (HI
1 only)
* Read the posted notices and memos at the beginning of each shift. This includes
current memos and “Letters From Liz” in the reference book.
* Be familiar with desk information, including the facility directory, meeting
and class schedules, doctor’s book and Reference Manual.
* Be familiar with telephone and computer use as described in the Reference
Manual
* Holiday and weekend morning volunteer delivers the newspapers to patients
requesting them. (HI 1 only)
* Assist in training new volunteers.
* Understand and follow strict confidentiality guidelines.
