Volunteer Services Department
POSITION PURPOSE: Under the direction of Senior Volunteers, Student Volunteers staff the Hospital Information Desk and provide information, assistance and direction to Health Plan members and visitors.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: All volunteers must attend Volunteer Orientation, sign a Confidentiality statement, complete health testing and security photo identification, and wear appropriate uniform when on duty. Volunteers must be in good health and must follow Kaiser Permanente rules. Orientation to the Hospital Information Desk is provided by Senior Volunteers and Volunteer Services Department staff.
Ability to speak clearly and be understood in the English language .
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills: A friendly demeanor with a positive attitude; ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner; ability to escort patients in wheelchairs.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FACTORS:
* Hearing and sight must be adequate with or without accommodation to carry
out duties.
* Ability to walk 1/4 mile up to 4 times per day.
* Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
* Ability to hear and speak clearly for staff, patient and visitor contact.
* Ability to push a patient in a wheelchair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Complete “zero-refill” prescription runs.
* Assists nursing staff at mealtimes. Volunteer DO NOT FEED patients.
* Deliver flowers to patients.
* Run errands for patients (mail letters, deliver newspapers, assist with gift
shop purchases).
* Water flowers in the refrigerated flower case.
* Visit patient rooms with the magazine cart. Replenish magazines in waiting
rooms when needed.
* Escort patients throughout the facility. Use a wheelchair when necessary.
* Discharge patients as requested by staff.
* Make up charts on the nursing floors.
* Become familiar with Hospital Information Procedures. Staff the Information
Desk, as needed.
* Read the posted notices and memos at the beginning of each shift.
* Assist in the training of new volunteers.
* Understand and follow strict confidentiality guidelines.
