Things to Consider Nursing Programs require time, energy, dedication,
focus, commitment and perseverance. In addition, many students
have jobs, family obligations, and other responsibilities
that they must meet. The following are suggestions to consider
as you plan how you will juggle family, work, and school.
Talk to family members:
Let them know that while you are in school, things will
be a little different and that you need their help to succeed
Ask your family to help with chores and other household
duties
Explain that you will need quiet time to study
Discuss your goals with your family and make them feel
a part of the journey
Try to find quality time to spend together whenever possible
Finding time for yourself:
Don't completely give up all of your favorite things, instead:
Make room in your schedule for something you enjoy at
least once a week or whenever you can fit it in
Realize that you cannot do it all, so prioritize
Learn to delegate
Learn to say "no" more often
Transitioning to the role of a
student:
For new and returning students alike, the following suggestions
may help as you adjust:
Designate a quiet place to study
Join a study group at school
Acquaint yourself with resources available through your
school (for example, computer labs, skills videos, practice
labs, or tutorials)
Brush up on your computer skills
Practice your time management skills
Develop your study and test-taking skills
Don't be afraid to ask questions
Seek help when needed
Reward and praise yourself frequently
Remind yourself that you are making temporary adjustments
to your regular routine to achieve your long-term goal
