Kaiser Permanente is the largest health maintenance organization
in the Greater Sacramento area. The Sacramento Medical Center
encourages innovation in medical care and provides numerous
programs and services.
The Sacramento Medical Center is a Center of Excellence
for Neurosurgery, where physicians perform high-tech surgeries
to treat patients with diseases such as Parkinson's and
epilepsy.
Sacramento surgeon Ernie Bodai, MD came up with the idea
of a Breast Cancer Research Stamp - the nation's first stamp
to raise money for disease research.
The Pediatric Diabetes Center - the largest of its kind
in Sacramento - serves more than 300 diabetic children.
The center adopts a unique team approach to treatment by
treating the entire family with education, counseling, and
support.
The Sacramento Medical Center is the birthplace of a surgical
breakthrough to correct severe curvatures of the spine.
This pioneering technique using an endoscope is less invasive
and requires a shorter, less painful recovery than traditional
surgery.
Services also include full labor and delivery services,
an ambulatory surgery center, high-risk obstetrics, orthopedics,
neurosurgery, occupational medicine specialists, hospice
care, laboratory, pharmacy, ophthalmology, optical sales,
dialysis, genetic counseling, pediatric and adult oncology,
and physical therapy.
Kaiser Permanente is working to establish nurse-to-patient
ratios in our hospitals that are lower than the ratios recently
announced by Gov. Gray Davis. We are committed to establishing
a 4:1 ratio on our medical/surgical floors.
