The Kaiser Foundation School of Nursing Alumni (KFSNA) began in 1944 when Dr. Garfield wrote the California Board of Nurse Examiners requesting that the Permanente Foundation Hospital in Oakland, and the Permanente Field Hospital in Richmond establish a three-year diploma in nursing. The school continued until 1976 and graduated 1065 students.

The Kaiser Foundation School of Nursing Alumni Association (KFSNAA) is made up of graduates from KFSN. The group actively supports nursing careers and meets several times a year.
