This six-week didactic program is designed for RNs who are in precepted training programs for the Emergency Department. Prerequisite for the course is current employment as an RN new to a Kaiser Emergency Department and Manager approval.
DESCRIPTION
This class will provide the RN with knowledge of procedures, practices, applicable laws and scientific knowledge which will allow for the provision of appropriate nursing care in the Emergency Department.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of this Program, the learner will be able to:
Define the legal and professional scope of emergency nursing practice
Describe physical assessment skills necessary to complete a nursing physical examination appropriate to presenting complaints.
List appropriate priority-setting criteria for patients presenting to the ED with various physiological and psychological complaints.
Describe appropriate patient education goals during the episodic emergency visit.
Emergency Department Training Program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 2365 for 33 hours.
