The program is intended to be taken concurrently with the Labor and Delivery or NICU training. It is also designed for nurses in, Mother Baby, and Pediatric training positions. Classes are open to non Labor and Delivery or NICU nurses as space allows.
Special Registration Information for this class: This program will be broadcast as a videoconference, as part of the NICU training. DESCRIPTION
This 6-day program reviews the basic content related to newborn care for L&D, Mother/Baby, NICU, or Pediatric training programs. It provides the knowledge base for clinical preceptorships held at the individual facilities
REQUIREMENTS
Program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 2365 for 36 contact hours.
Registration at 1800 Harrison is as space allows for non Labor and Delivery or NICU nurses.
OBJECTIVES
At the end of this program, the participant will be able to:
Identify normal findings and common variations of the newborn
Describe maternal, fetal, and neonatal effects of substance abuse during pregnancy
Identify infants at risk for sepsis, hypoglycemia, hyperbilirubinemia, and temperature instability
Describe two goals of pain management in the neonate
Explain the key aspects of the newborn screening programs at Kaiser Permanente
Apply the principles of newborn resuscitation in the clinical setting
Demonstrate at least two ways to assist a mother with breastfeeding
