Registered Nurses seeking a career in Perioperative Nursing. Must be hired for a vacant position in the OR. The OR Manager must be willing to send to OR Training Program.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The program was developed in conjunction with AORN's curriculum, "Perioperative Nursing Course 101" and is designed to provide the registered nurse with the foundation of perioperative practice, addressing both the professional, as well as the technical aspects. At the completion of the course the nurse will be expected to function independently as a novice Perioperative Nurse.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course the registered nurse will be able to:
Demonstrate the principles of aseptic practice.
Demonstrate knowledge and principles of sterilization and disinfection.
Demonstrate proficiency and independence in the scrub and circulator role on routine surgical procedures.
Perform specific nursing actions as they relate to the administration of anesthesia.
Provide appropriate scientific rationale for nursing actions performed in the perioperative setting.
Define measures to maintain safety in the perioperative environment.
Integrate the nursing process into the patient's perioperative experience.
Demonstrate professionalism, organizational skills, effective communication skills and teamwork qualities in the perioperative nursing role.
The all didactic presentations/clinical lab will take place at Garfield Center in San Leandro . The remaining 13 weeks, after the didactic is completed of clinical experience will take place at the hiring facility. Students will receive 83 contact hours from AORN after successfully completing the program and achieving a minimum score of 80% on the AORN Final Examination; California BRN provider number is CEP13019.
