Workforce
We want Kaiser Permanente to be the organization of choice
for nurses. To create the optimum environment for both our
nurses and our members, we are focusing on improving nursing
retention and recruitment. We have upgraded our preceptor
program, created re-entry programs for returning nurses, and
awarded grants to nursing schools to expand their curriculum.
We know that providing the best possible resources for our
nurses will result in excellent patient care, and we are working
with our staff to meet that goal.
Learning
Professional growth and development are vital to nurses. At
Kaiser Permanente, we know that continuous learning promotes
both ongoing excellent patient care and nurse satisfaction.
We provide classes and training that enhance nursing careers,
helping you achieve your goals and build your future.
Leadership
Strong leadership plays an integral role in the creation of
a constructive work environment. We are committed to helping
our leaders and managers enhance their leadership skills.
With this in mind, we have created the Kaiser
Permanente Nursing Leadership Institute to help advance
the performance of front-line nurse managers and develop the
nurse leaders of the future.
Practice Work
Environment
A positive practice work environment is essential to both
nurse satisfaction and outstanding nursing practice. We encourage
feedback from our nurses, and have incorporated their ideas
into the implementation of one of the best nurse-to-patient
ratios in California. By promoting efforts that create a safer
workplace, we hope to eliminate workplace injuries over the
next four years.
Nursing Research
Research provides us with our most objective means of determining
how to deliver the best possible evidence-based care and service.
We know that the best hospitals have strong nursing research
integrated into their practice environment. Kaiser Permanente
provides opportunities to develop research projects and put
the results into daily practice, allowing our nurses to contribute
valuable experience that improves patient care.
Quality & Patient
Safety
Delivering high-quality patient care is the ultimate result
of a satisfied and engaged nursing workforce. We want our
nurses to have every benefit available to provide the safest
and best care for our members. The Inpatient Nursing Quality
Indicators Program and the inpatient medication improvement
initiatives are examples of our commitment to quality and
patient safety.
