The sights of unfamiliar shapes, objects, and figures may precipitate a strong feeling of curiosity. Curiosity is an urge to explore and discover a reality that is difficult to capture by human senses. There are experiences and realities that do exist beyond the realm of human intelligence and senses.
In the evolution of mankind, it is consented that curiosity played a significant role in the discovery of today’s level of achievements in technology, science, art, and medicine. I have several images that reflect the role of curiosity in the discovery of medical conditions.
For example, ants rushing toward the urine site of diabetics were a triggering moment in the discovery of diabetes mellitus.
Curiosity is pivotal as the driving fuel that nourishes the creativity of the artist. Therefore our creative mind is in constant dialogue with curiosity. Human creative brain capacity has no boundaries.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Mohamed Buwe Osman, MD
I am an American Board Certified Physician, Geriatrician, formerly with Group Health Cooperative, and former United Nations Physician in Africa.
Art is a strong spiritual, deep feeling that communicates with the creative receptors of human brain. Colors of art are ubiquitous. They exist independent from our conscious world. They convey energy. We are surrounded by this mysterious energy. The unconscious part of me strives to capture this invisible energy. It transcribes it into fine art images.
I am inspired by what I see, feel, touch, think, and remember. As a physician my patients are the sources of my inspiration. East Africa is my place of origin. North America gave me the opportunity not only to practice medicine but to recreate as well the energy of colors into contemporary African art. My works of art touch most of the topics of medical conditions that a physician encounters daily. I have created several paintings on issues of substance abuse and dependence such as alcohol, opiates, marijuana, and nicotine. My concepts and thoughts about these conditions have been formed as a result of my 30-years of experience as a physician. These concepts do not necessarily reflect other authoritative or expert citations on these topics.
