Painting has been both a joyful and rewarding experience and I am not content with a formulaic approach to painting. I love to explore different techniques and new ways to express my vision and to accomplish my goal as an artist, which is to capture the beauty and essence of the subject while evoking feelings that speak to the observer at a personal level.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Philip R Brunner, MD, FAAP

I am a retired pediatrician and practiced at Kaiser Permanente South Bay since 1969. During that time I served as Chief of Pediatrics for 24 years and founded and directed the Center for Learning and Behavior Disorders, with a special emphasis on attention deficits. I have been retired from the partnership since 2006 and have worked to develop and refine my skills as an artist.

I live in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Living with the beauty of the peninsula for many years and traveling to many parts of the world has deeply influenced my work. I have been artistically inspired by the people, architecture, and magnificent landscapes of our wondrous globe. My subjects are varied and range from people and animals to still lifes, landscapes, and seascapes. Composition, color, and light are of great importance to me and I strive to create a balance of these elements in my work.
