Kaiser Permanente Los Anegeles
Movement Science Fellowship
Kaiser Permanente, Southern California Region is proud to offer a clinical fellowship designed to provide highly trained orthopaedic physical therapists with advanced knowledge and have experience with a concentrated clinical environment.
Patients with musculoskeletal pain constitute the largest group of individuals receiving physical therapy. These patients commonly have movement impairments causing or contributing to their pain and associated disability. Recent advances in the clinical application of exercise science, biomechanical analysis, motor control and motor learning form the basis of this fellowship’s curriculum. Incorporating these advances into a well defined, efficient training program for physical therapists led to the development of this program. Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles and West Los Angeles are fortunate to employ leaders in this field of Movement Science who championed the initiation of this program with the intention to 1) expand the accessibility of highly skilled physical therapy providers for patients within Kaiser and in the community, and 2) increase the number clinical educators/mentors for future physical therapy interns, residents, and fellows. This program is recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association as a Credentialed Postprofessional Clinical Fellowship Program
GENERAL
INFORMATION
This fellowship begins in January of each year and runs for 50 consecutive weeks. The clinical training in this fellowship program is fulfilled in two ten-hour days per week and the classroom and lab training occurs during 30 weekend days and 4 Mondays throughout the year. This format allows the fellows the time flexibility to maintain or pursue their individual research, academic, clinical practice or personal commitments. Six fellows are accepted to participate in the program each year. Two of the fellows are employed and provide patient care at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles facility, two fellows are employed and provide patient care at the Kaiser Permanente South Bay, and two fellows are employed and provide patient care at the Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles facility. The fellows are paid for the hours that they provide unsupervised patient care at the Clinical Specialist I rate (In July 2008, the minimum pay level of this rate for a fellow became $34.034/hour with benefits, or $40.84/hour without benefits). The registration fee for the program is $500.00.
