Mobile App Serves as Safety Decision Aid for Women Facing Violence in their Intimate Relationship
The One Love Foundation recently released the One Love MyPlan mobile application for smartphones. The One Love MyPlan app helps the user determine if a relationship is unsafe and create the best action plan by weighing that individual’s unique characteristics and values. In addition, the MyPlan app provides a safety decision aid for friends who are concerned about the safety of a female friend’s relationship.
The MyPlan app provides access to trained advocate support 24/7 through an embedded live chat function and takes users through four phases:
- My Relationship – gathering information about the relationship
- My Safety – risk assessment for the user
- My Priorities – ranking of the user's priorities when making a safety decision
- My Plan – personalized safety plan and information on available resources.
The MyPlan app was created based on over 10 years of NIH and CDC funded research conducted by Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing professor Dr. Nancy Glass. According to this research, college-aged women and their friends respond positively to a technology-based safety decision aid, such as the One Love MyPlan app, that can be accessed from their smartphone or other mobile device.
