About Kaiser Permanente International
Kaiser Permanente International is a not-for-profit, self-supporting educational subsidiary of Kaiser Permanente, recognized as one of the leading health care providers and not-for-profit health plans in the United States. Kaiser Permanente International offers a forum for sharing Kaiser Permanente's knowledge and experience with governments, health plans, health care providers, and other organizations throughout the world that are striving to improve their health care systems.
An extensive network of health care professionals serve as speakers for Kaiser Permanente International's educational programs. These individuals represent a full range of expertise, from health care delivery to information technology and innovation.
Kaiser Permanente International's programs may take place in California or in Washington, D.C. We offer programs that are open to participants from all over the world as well as customized programs for groups of about 10 from a specific country or organization. We may also be able to provide speakers at conferences (in person, or by video conference), or a condensed program in your country.
Paul Swenson, MBA
Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer
Paul Swenson joined Kaiser Permanente in 2012 as senior vice president and chief strategic planning officer, with responsibilities including strategic planning, enterprise risk management, and delivery system planning. In July 2013 he was named chief strategy officer with additional responsibilities including business development. In May 2016 Paul was given the added responsibility of overseeing Kaiser Permanente's research work.
Prior to working at Kaiser Permanente, Paul was with John Muir Health, where he served as president/CEO for the John Muir Physician Network as well as executive vice president for administration. During his tenure at John Muir, at various times his responsibilities included finance, human resources, marketing, strategic planning, information technology, legal, compliance, and community benefit.
Previously, Paul was with Blue Shield of California in several positions including CFO, SVP for the Northern Region business unit and EVP-Corporate Development. Between 1990 and 1998, he held various general management positions with Aetna's health plan organization in California. Prior to that, he was chief operating officer at Bay Pacific Health Plan and served as a senior manager for the Amherst/Ernst and Young health care consulting practice.
Paul holds a BA from Duke University and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
Vivian Tan, MBA
Vice President, Strategy and Transformation
As vice president of strategy and transformation, Vivan Tan works closely with Kaiser Permanente's chief strategy officer and chairman/CEO. Vivian is responsible for the multiple transformation efforts driving Kaiser Permanente's national strategy in partnership with all regions and functions. She identifies, analyzes, and interprets health care trends, organizational strategies, strategic investments, and Kaiser Permanente's overall market and competitive position. Most recently, Vivian has led the transformation efforts for Kaiser Permanente such as One KP, Enterprise Information Strategy (EIS), and Vision 2025, which create alignment around a future vision that defines Kaiser Permanente's leadership of health care and coverage into the future.
Vivian has served in several leadership roles since joining Kaiser Permanente in 2006. She was the executive director and chief of staff to Kaiser Permanente's chief financial officer, where she was also interim vice president of strategic planning before assuming the job permanently in 2009. She served as the vice president of capital planning from 2011 to 2013. In May 2016 Vivian added KP International to her work portfolio.
Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Vivian consulted with senior leadership at Fortune 500 firms in her seven years with Booz & Co., an international consulting firm. She also worked in policy and planning with the Telecommunications Authority of Singapore and was a senior officer with United Overseas Bank.
Vivian holds a bachelor's degree in economics, political science, and statistics from the National University of Singapore, and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management. She completed the Kaiser Permanente Executive Leadership Program at Harvard University in 2008.
Molly Porter, MS
Director, Kaiser Permanente International
Molly Porter, MS, is the director of Kaiser Permanente International. In this position, she develops educational programs about Kaiser Permanente for international health care leaders — both in the U.S. and other countries. She has presented on Kaiser Permanente's integrated delivery model in Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
Molly has worked for Kaiser Permanente for 26 years, holding positions at the national, regional, and local level. Previously she spent three years as the communication manager in East Bay Public Affairs, serving both our Oakland and Richmond medical centers. Earlier in her career, she worked as a communication consultant for Kaiser Permanente Information Technology and as a manager in Northern California and Program Offices Corporate Communications.
Between two of her Kaiser Permanente positions, Molly took a nine-year break to run her own health care communication consulting business. Among her many clients were the U.S. Agency for International Development, Blue Shield of California, Kaiser Permanente, McKesson Health Systems, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
During the course of her career at Kaiser Permanente, Molly has attended the Harvard Business School's Executive Leadership Program, the St. Mary's College Middle Management Program, and the University of California at Berkeley's Global Health Leadership Forum. She has also earned a master of science degree in Organizational Leadership, with a focus on Strategic Innovation and Change Management, from Colorado State University-Global Campus. Before starting her career, she earned a bachelor of arts degree in Romance Languages and Literature from Antioch University and studied in Paris, France, and Cuernavaca, Mexico. She is proficient in French and Spanish.

Nnenna Ozobia, MA
Manager, Kaiser Permanente International
Based in Oakland, California, Nnenna Ozobia, MA, has worked as a program and grants manager, international development practitioner, and researcher for a variety of domestic and international institutions, including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), TransAfrica Forum, the Institute for International Education (IIE), and the Inter-American Foundation (IAF).
Most recently, Nnenna served on the leadership team of an innovative clinical trials unit dedicated to HIV prevention research at the San Francisco Department of Public Health. As the manager of community programs, Nnenna directed recruitment and community engagement and helped secure a $20,000 research and mentorship program grant that used new technology and social media to expand educational tools and inspired similar projects within broader, global HIV networks.
Nnenna received an MA in international relations and economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and holds a BA with honors in international relations and Spanish from Stanford University. Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, she has traveled to over a dozen countries and enjoys using her bilingual Spanish skills and basic Mandarin to engage in culturally competent work and coalition building to advance health equity and social justice.
Program Coordinator, Kaiser Permanente International
Based in Oakland, California, Christine Aguilar has served as Kaiser Permanente International's program coordinator since 2011. She provides logistical and administrative support for Kaiser Permanente International's educational programs and speaking engagements and manages the database and marketing and communications functions.
Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente International, Christine spent several years supporting the development, marketing, and communications activities at several Bay Area nonprofit organizations. Earlier, she worked in the president's office at World Savings as part of a national corporate recognition event planning team.
Christine received a bachelor's degree in literature from the University of California, Berkeley. She was awarded a Fulbright Travel Grant and a scholarship from the German government to teach English to students in Bonn, Germany for an academic year.
