Kaiser Permanente and Boulder Community Hospital Expand Medical Services for Community

New contracts between nonprofit providers increase access to affordable quality care

DENVER — Kaiser Permanente Colorado and Boulder Community Hospital have entered into a new hospital services agreement. As a result of the expanded relationship between the two nonprofit providers, more than 4,000 members of Kaiser Permanente’s POS and PPO plans will be afforded increased access to quality care close to home.

Effective May 1, Boulder Community Hospital became an in-network provider for Kaiser Permanente POS and PPO plan members. All BCH facilities — Boulder Community Foothills Hospital, the Mapleton Center for Rehabilitation and Community Medical Center in Lafayette — are included in the contract.

In addition to the new hospital agreement, Kaiser Permanente has contracted with Community Medical Associates, the hospital’s affiliated physician group, which includes 38 specialists in internal medicine, family medicine, gynecology and infectious diseases. The agreement also gives Kaiser PPO members access to the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, which is a division of the hospital.

Kaiser Permanente is planning to continue to expand its provider network with a broad array of specialists in orthopedics, cardiology, cancer care, neurosurgery and other specialties.

"As health care consumers demand more choice, the addition of Boulder Community Hospital and new contracts with Boulder-area physicians reflect Kaiser Permanente’s responsiveness to meeting our members’ and employers’ needs and expectations," said Donna Lynne, DrPH, president, Kaiser Permanente Colorado. "Kaiser Permanente is committed to building connections with community providers so that our members access quality and affordable care close to home.”

“We’re happy to join with Kaiser Permanente in offering this new network that expands health care options for citizens of Boulder County,” said hospital President/CEO David Gehant. “This partnership offers local citizens and employers a cost-effective way to access the broad range of first-rate physicians who practice in Boulder County. The hospital’s mission is to provide local access to the latest medical treatments and technologies, and this agreement helps us accomplish that.”

Kaiser Permanente Colorado is not just expanding its hospital and physician network in an effort to broaden access. The health plan is also offering an expanded line of products designed to increase choice, a top priority for consumers according to a recent industry report.

Kaiser Permanente’s expanded offerings include:

  • MultiChoice POS: members choose physicians from a preferred provider network or experience the convenience of receiving all health care services under one roof at a Kaiser Permanente medical office.

  • Preferred Provider Plan (PPO): members choose providers affiliated with a preferred provider network or any licensed physician of their choice.

  • Self-Referral to Specialty Doctors: opens direct access to specialists without need for a referral.

  • Choose Your Own Doctor: a dedicated team helps members find a primary care physician tailored to meet personal health goals.
