Also in 5280 Magazine, two Kaiser Permanente cardiologists, Chris Lang, MD and Laurent Lewkowiez, MD are featured in a special section on cardiac care.

Dr. Lang was asked about the biggest change he’s seen in cardiology over the course of his career. “If I look back over the past 20 years, it’s night and day how patients are now faring with coronary artery disease,” said Lang. “Today, I can be confident that after a patient has a heart attack, he can live many years without a recurrence if we are treating him correctly.”

Dr. Lewkowiez was asked about his high-tech specialty, Cardiac electrophysiology, the practice of treating irregularities, called arrhythmias, in the electrical conduction system of the heart. “EP was advancing so rapidly when I came out of training in the late 1990s that I decided to do another fellowship I was not required to do to practice medicine,” said Lewkowiez.
