Tysons Corner to House New Kaiser Permanente Medical Office Building
Purchase of Russell Building furthers health plan’s expansion in metropolitan Washington, D.C.
ROCKVILLE, Md. — Kaiser Permanente, a leading not-for-profit health plan and care provider, has completed negotiations to purchase the 236,000 square foot Russell Building in Tysons Corner. The six-story structure at 8008 Westpark Drive will undergo a complete renovation to become a state-of-the-art medical office building for Kaiser Permanente’s operations in Northern Virginia.
When completed, the new Kaiser Permanente Tysons Corner Medical Office Building will serve as a convenient and attractive location for health care for the large workforce of Tysons Corner’s many and diverse employers, while also providing highly advanced and specialized care for many of the nearly 200,000 Health Plan members who frequent one of eleven Kaiser Permanente’s medical offices in Northern Virginia. It will house both primary care and specialty care, advance imaging services, laboratory, pharmacy services, and urgent care — all supported by industry-leading technology and information systems.
“Providing access to high-quality, affordable medical care remains our number one priority,” said Marilyn Kawamura, president, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States. “Adding a new, comprehensive and modern medical facility at an area as central as Tysons Corner, which sits near the crossroads of I-495, I-66, and other major roadways, with several future sites for Metro rail in the works, is another major step towards that goal.”
Kaiser Permanente’s advanced electronic medical record, Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect®, helps clinicians provide outstanding quality, assists patients in making certain they have received the preventive care they require, and maximizes patient safety by identifying risks to patients, such as potentially harmful drug combinations. Patients also have the added convenience of being able to access their medical records, schedule appointments, send secure e-mail to their physicians, and order prescription refills online, through My Health Manager at kp.org.
“Coordination and collaboration are central to Kaiser Permanente’s unique medical delivery system and are key to superior medical outcomes for our members,” noted Bernadette Loftus, MD, The Permanente Medical Group associate executive director for the Mid-Atlantic States. “The new facility at Tysons Corner will provide an expansive array of clinical services combined with our state-of-the-art medical technology. It will stand as a cornerstone in our continuing drive to make Kaiser Permanente the leading provider of health care on the East Coast and a model for the nation.”
Kaiser Permanente intends to announce the selection of the design and construction firms, and proposed timeline for the Russell Building renovations, within the next ten months.
