Kaiser Permanente Northern California Named Healthiest Employer in Sacramento Business Journal Survey

Health Care Organization’s Live Well Be Well Program Offers more than 250 Services to 68,000 Employees and 7,000 Physicians in Northern California

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Kaiser Permanente Northern California has been named the healthiest employer among large employers in a survey published by the Sacramento Business Journal.

Live Well Be Well

The survey is the first of its kind by the Sacramento Business Journal, and the top honor in the “mega” employer category, is a testament to Kaiser Permanente’s Live Well Be Well program, a workplace-wellness effort dedicated to promoting and enhancing the health and well-being of the health care organization’s 68,000 employees and 7,000 physicians throughout Northern California.

“We are honored to receive this recognition,” said Richard Isaacs, MD, physician in chief at Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center. "We are dedicated to being the best place to work and we are committed to improving the health of the entire community. Being the best requires having the staff that feels supported and inspired about leading a healthy life. Our employees are our greatest ambassadors for good health, and this award is a testament to their efforts to live well.”

Live Well Be Well offers more than 250 services aimed at promoting and enhancing the health and well-being of employees and physicians. The program leverages Kaiser Permanente’s clinical excellence and health-promotion expertise to provide both on-site and online services, which include everything from preventive screening to wellness coaches, as well as walking/running programs and classes on cooking, weight-loss and physical fitness.

"We are committed not only to improving the health of our patients, but also the health of our employees and physicians," said Edward S. Glavis, senior vice president and area manager for Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento and Roseville. "It's phenomenal to see so many of our staff participate in physical activities, whether it's Zumba classes after work, or lunchtime walks with coworkers around the hospitals.”

Earlier this year, Live Well Be Well was honored with gold certification in the 2011 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles awards presented by the National Business Group on Health. Kaiser Permanente is also a past recipient of the California Fit Business Award, which recognizes and celebrates innovations and excellence in creating a healthy workplace environment.
